General Secretariat convenes 49th session of Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Youth and Sports Department – Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports) will convene the meetings of the auxiliary technical committees (youth, sports, and financial) on 11 and 12 January 2026 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. The Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports will also meet on 13 January, under the chairmanship of the Arab Republic of Egypt, with the membership of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Tunisia, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Palestine, the State of Kuwait, and the State of Libya. The 49th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports will be held in the evening under the chairmanship of the United Arab Emirates.

League's Secretary-General welcomes holding comprehensive conference in Riyadh to resolve southern Yemen issue

​Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the call by His Excellency President Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, to convene a comprehensive conference in Riyadh to examine fair solutions to the southern issue. He expressed his appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s prompt response to this request by the legitimate Yemeni authorities, and for its announcement of readiness to host and sponsor the conference, with the participation of southern components.

General Secretariat condemns Israeli Knesset law to cut electricity and water supplies to UNRWA offices

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector) condemns the Israeli occupation Knesset's approval of a law mandating cutting electricity and water supplies from the offices of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), a measure that falls within the framework of the sustained targeting of the Agency over recent years.

 

Aboul Gheit calls for immediate cessation of escalation and prioritising dialogue in Yemen

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, expressed deep concern over the serious and rapidly unfolding developments in the Republic of Yemen, following the failure of the Southern Transitional Council to respond to the demands of the Presidential Leadership Council. He voiced hope for the immediate cessation of escalation in the governorates of Hadramout and Al-Mahra in eastern Yemen.

League's Secretary-General condemns terrorist bombing of Homs mosque

​Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly condemned the terrorist bombing that targeted the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in the Al-Dhahab district of Homs on 26 December, resulting in the deaths and injuries of a number of innocent civilians. He expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

League's Secretary-General calls for prioritising Yemeni people's interests and avoiding escalation in Hadramout and Al-Mahra

​Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called for the avoidance of escalation, the prioritisation of the supreme interests of the Yemeni people, and strict adherence to the unity of the country, in light of the recent developments in the governorates of Hadramout and Al-Mahra. He added that these developments further complicate the Yemeni crisis and undermine the principle of Yemen’s territorial unity.
