Aboul Gheit congratulates Lebanese Prime Minister on government's confidence approval

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Lebanese Prime Minister Mr. Nawaf Salam on the occasion of his government securing the confidence of the Lebanese Parliament. He expressed his sincere wishes for success in achieving the pivotal objectives outlined in the government’s ministerial statement.

Aboul Gheit condemns Israeli raids on Syria, describes them as reckless provocation

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, vehemently condemned the Israeli occupation’s raids and attacks on Syrian territory in the past few hours, describing them as a reckless provocation and a dangerous escalation aimed at exploiting Syria’s political transition to impose an illegal and illegitimate reality.  

General Secretariat participates in First Session of Conference of Businessmen and Investors from Arab Countries, Central Asian Countries, and Azerbaijan

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, led by His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector, participated in the First Session of the Conference of Businessmen and Investors from Arab Countries, Central Asian Countries, and Azerbaijan, held on 26-27 February in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  

General Secretariat organises consultative meeting on environmental dimension of achieving SDGs

​The Economic Affairs Sector, in collaboration and coordination with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and with the participation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – West Asia Office, convened a consultative meeting on 25–26 February to address the environmental dimension of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Egypt signs Statute of Arab Centre for Social Policy Studies and Poverty Eradication in Arab Countries

​The Arab Republic of Egypt formally initialed the Statute of the Arab Centre for Social Policy Studies and Poverty Eradication in Arab Countries on 25 February at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. The establishment of this Centre was welcomed by the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level, in accordance with Resolution 738, the 29th ordinary session C3 on 15 April 2018, and subsequently approved at the Ministerial Level pursuant to Resolution 8706, 156th ordinary session C2 on 9 September 2021.

General Secretariat organises 15th meeting of Technical Committee for Arab Rules of Origin

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Economic Affairs Sector – Arab Economic Integration Department) is convening the 15th meeting of the Technical Committee for Arab Rules of Origin from 25 to 27 February at the headquarters of the General Secretariat. The meeting is bringing together representatives from 18 Arab nations, all signatories to the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.  

General Secretariat organises workshop on mitigating climate change through transformation in energy sector

​The Economic Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States, in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RECREE), the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), and the Global Carbon Footprint Council, convened a specialised workshop on 24 February to explore strategies for mitigating climate change through transformation in the energy sector.  

Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries holds training course on diplomacy in Moroni

​Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Republic of the Comoros, the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries inaugurated a specialised training course on 24 February for 35 Comorian diplomats. The course, held in Moroni, is running from 24 to 28 February.  

General Secretariat marks Arab Cultural Heritage Day with discussion panel on Environmental Heritage and its Sustainability

​In line with the implementation of Resolution. 8030, 145th ordinary session, C2 of 11/3/2016 of the Council of the League of Arab States, which designates Arab Cultural Heritage Day as an annual celebration, the General Secretariat (Social Affairs Sector – Department of Culture and Dialogue of Civilisations) is organising a discussion panel on Environmental Heritage and its Sustainability. The event aims to highlight the vital link between environmental preservation and heritage conservation as a means of bridging the past and present to shape a sustainable future. The panel will be held on 24 February at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
