Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, denounced Israel’s continued evasions and deliberate procrastination in fully implementing its withdrawal from southern Lebanon, as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement extended until 18 February.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit’s firm stance, stressing that the Israeli withdrawal must be completed in its entirety and within the agreed timeframe. He warned that any delay in this regard constitutes a calculated provocation, deliberately inviting a crisis. He further stressed that the guarantor parties to the agreement must act swiftly and decisively to exert the necessary pressure on the Israeli occupation to uphold its commitments.
Roshdy reaffirmed the Secretary-General’s full support for Lebanon’s firm and unequivocal position, rejecting any Israeli presence at designated points following the withdrawal’s completion or any further postponement under pretexts deemed unacceptable.
