His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, participated in the opening of the 115th ordinary session of the Economic and Social Council at the Ministerial Level, held on 13 February at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
Minister Plenipotentiary Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman of the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit delivered a speech addressing the rapid and successive developments the Arab region has experienced since the onset of Israeli aggression on the occupied Palestinian territories. He highlighted the expansionist actions of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, the repositioning of military equipment, and the ongoing war crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
The spokesman said that Mr. Aboul Gheit reiterated the unified Arab position in rejecting attempts to displace Palestinians from their land, stressing that such actions are a blatant violation of international law and an attempt to undermine the Palestinian cause, which remains the central issue for the Arab world.
In his address, Mr. Aboul Gheit underscored the necessity of effective action at both international and regional levels—politically, economically, and socially—to alleviate the catastrophic repercussions of these Israeli crimes. Consequently, he called upon the Council to adopt emergency relief plans to support the Palestinian people and establish specific mechanisms to oversee the implementation of these plans.
The spokesman further noted that Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed appreciation for the important issues that the Council will address, including the preparation of the economic and social dossier for the upcoming Arab Summit in the Republic of Iraq. He added that these issues have become increasingly urgent on the Arab development agenda, particularly in light of the challenges impeding the achievement of sustainable development goals.
