    التاريخ: 2024/11/27

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel. In a statement upon his return to Cairo on 27 November, he remarked, "This agreement represents a significant step towards de-escalation and halting the bloodshed. It must be implemented in full and with precision to enable Lebanon to recover and regain stability swiftly."

Mr. Aboul Gheit said that "the Lebanese people have endured immense suffering during this war, which has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties and extensive destruction of infrastructure." He further highlighted that "the agreement provides an essential opportunity for the Lebanese people to regroup and address internal political priorities, particularly the urgent election of a president for the republic following a vacancy of over two years."

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, relayed Mr. Aboul Gheit's call for the immediate completion of procedures for Israel's withdrawal from all Lebanese territories, paving the way for the return of displaced persons to their homes.

The spokesman also noted that the Secretary-General stressed the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and all its provisions. He also commended the mediators’ efforts, particularly those of the United States, in securing the agreement. At the same time, Mr. Aboul Gheit urged the international community to intensify efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza as a matter of utmost urgency.
