  • Aboul Gheit participates in the Rome Mediterranean Dialogues Forum, asserts: Israel wants to annex all Palestinian lands and undermines the future of coexistence in the region
    التاريخ: 2024/11/25

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, participated on 25 November in the opening of the tenth edition of the Rome Mediterranean Dialogues Forum in Rome, Italy. The event was attended by the Italian President, alongside several Arab and foreign ministers.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit’s participation underscores the League's commitment to enhancing relations between the two shores of the Mediterranean. The forum serves as a platform for addressing shared challenges and fostering dialogue among high-level officials from the Mediterranean region.

During his address at the forum's opening session, which was attended by the foreign ministers of Italy, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, India, and the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Aboul Gheit articulated the League’s vision regarding the regional landscape and explored pathways to restore stability in the Arab world and the Middle East.

In his speech, Mr. Aboul Gheit reaffirmed that the two-state solution remains the sole path to achieving a just, dignified, and sustainable peace. He warned that the alternative is the continuation of the apartheid-like system currently enforced in the occupied Palestinian territories—a system maintained through violence and oppression, with Palestinians bearing the tragic cost in blood.

Mr. Aboul Gheit further emphasised that Israel is actively pursuing the annexation and complete control of Palestinian territories from the river to the sea, driven by an expansionist, settlement-focused vision advanced by its current government.

While stressing that peace is the only viable option, he cautioned that Israel's ongoing crimes are undermining the prospects for future coexistence between Arabs and Jews. He asserted that any notion of peace and security that excludes Palestinian independence is an illusion.

Later this evening, Aboul Gheit is expected to participate in the ministerial meeting of the Group of Seven (G7) in Fiji. The meeting will bring together several Arab foreign ministers alongside G7 members to discuss the evolving situation in Gaza and Lebanon.
