Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit,
Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the United
States' use of the veto in the Security Council to obstruct a
resolution—supported by 14 member states—calling for a ceasefire in Gaza
and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, quoted Mr.
Aboul Gheit as stating that this unilateral American stance, isolated
internationally and condemned both politically and morally, effectively
grants Israel a green light to persist in its bloody campaign against
Palestinian civilians in Gaza. This includes the continued use of
starvation as a weapon and forced displacement in the Strip, aimed at
depopulating its northern regions.
Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed that, through its veto, the United States is
deepening the paralysis of the international community in addressing one
of the region's most perilous conflicts. He further noted that this
action emboldens the Israeli occupation to perpetuate the war, advancing
the extreme right-wing agenda of annexation and re-settlement.
The spokesperson elaborated that the United States' repeated use of the
veto—now for the fourth time against a resolution to halt the aggression
on Gaza—exposes the Security Council's inability to fulfil its mandate
of maintaining international peace and security. This undermines the
credibility of the international system, eroding global confidence in
its mechanisms and principles.
