  • Aboul Gheit condemns extremist Israeli statements on extending sovereignty over West Bank
    التاريخ: 2024/11/12

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, vehemently condemned the extremist remarks by Israeli Minister Smotrich on extending Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, denouncing them as a manifestation of political absurdity.

Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit urged the international community to resolutely confront this radical agenda, warning that such provocations will only serve to inflame tensions in the region and fuel further waves of extremism and violence.

The Secretary-General emphasised that these statements by a member of the Israeli government illustrate Israel's flagrant disregard for international law, which unequivocally designates the West Bank as occupied territory, prohibiting its annexation or the imposition of Israeli sovereignty, and declares Israeli settlements illegal and illegitimate.

Mr. Aboul Gheit underscored that these declarations expose the true agenda of Israel’s hardline settler government and its systematic efforts to dismantle the Palestinian cause through policies that include the annexation of occupied lands.

The official spokesman added that the Arab-Islamic Summit recently convened in Riyadh approved a series of mechanisms and action plans to counter Israel's agenda, which now openly aims to undermine any viable pathway to the two-state solution upheld by the international community.
