The Secretary-General of
the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, met with His
Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine,
at his place of residence on the evening of 3 November during his visit
to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Gamal Roshdy, spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the
discussions focused on recent developments amid the ongoing, brutal
Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West
Bank, as well as efforts by various parties to halt the assault and
establish arrangements leading to a ceasefire, along with anticipated
subsequent developments.
Roshdy added that Mr. Aboul Gheit also discussed with President Abbas
the intensified Arab efforts to advance the two-state solution, broaden
support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, and
increase international recognition of Palestine as an independent state.
He further noted that the Secretary-General briefed President Abbas on
ongoing preliminary consultations to prepare for the upcoming joint
Arab-Islamic summit and received insights from His Excellency regarding
Palestine’s priorities for the summit.
