  • Aboul Gheit vehemently condemns Rapid Support Forces' severe human rights abuses in Sudan's Al-Jazeera State, calls for halting crimes, punishing those responsible
    التاريخ: 2024/10/31

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, issued a stern condemnation of the severe human rights abuses recently reported in Al-Jazeera State in Sudan. According to United Nations reports, these violations include mass killings, sexual violence against women and girls, widespread looting of markets and homes, and the extensive burning of farmland committed by the Rapid Support Forces.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the League of Arab States, noted that the persistence of such atrocities, with some amounting to ethnic cleansing in Darfur and other Sudanese regions despite repeated international condemnations, underscores the urgent need for coordinated global and regional efforts to end the conflict. Roshdy stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable and cautioned against allowing the world’s focus on other crises, such as the Israeli occupation’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon, to detract from safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Notably, under the initiative of the Secretary-General, Arab, African, and international organisations convened in Cairo and Djibouti last June and July to coordinate efforts in support of peace and stability in Sudan.
