  • "The Lebanese government alone is entrusted with negotiating on behalf of the nation": Aboul Gheit
    التاريخ: 2024/10/19

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, affirmed that “the Lebanese government alone is entrusted with negotiating on behalf of the nation to secure an immediate ceasefire and ensure the full and unequivocal implementation of Resolution 1701.” He stressed that “the League of Arab States' stance is clear, as all its resolutions underscore Lebanon’s full sovereignty in making its critical decisions.”

Responding to questions from journalists about his views on the Iranian statement regarding Tehran's readiness to negotiate with France on the implementation of Resolution 1701, Mr. Aboul Gheit stated, “As Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, I fully endorse the position expressed by President Miqati, who categorically rejected this Iranian statement. There is no room for any form of guardianship imposed by any party, nor for any pressure or infringement upon Lebanese sovereignty. We unequivocally stand with Lebanon in this matter.”

He added, “Speaking about supporting Lebanese sovereignty must go beyond rhetoric. It requires real, tangible actions, especially in these challenging times. The suffering of the Lebanese people cannot be treated as a mere bargaining chip in the hands of any party.”
