Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab
States, departed for Ankara on 15 October on his first visit to the
Turkish capital since assuming office in 2016. The visit comes in
response to an official invitation extended by the Turkish government.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, said that
the visit will include discussions with the Turkish side on the pressing
issues facing the region, particularly the Palestinian cause, which
remains a matter of great mutual interest. He added that both parties
are expected to engage in dialogue on a range of political topics,
including enhancing relations and cooperation between the League of Arab
States and Turkey. The discussions will take into account Turkey’s
active role on the international stage, as well as the notably strong
relations currently prevailing between the two sides in various fields,
especially in light of Turkey's positive stances on the Palestinian
cause.
Roshdy also noted that Mr. Aboul Gheit will attend the opening of
the 15th session of the Arab-Turkish Economic Cooperation Forum,
scheduled to take place on 17 October in Istanbul.
