His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, has vehemently condemned the ongoing Israeli military operation in the northern Gaza Strip, particularly in Jabalia, which has killed and wounded hundreds.
The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Gamal Roshdy, conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit's assertion that Israel is exploiting the international community's distraction with its crimes in Lebanon to intensify its crimes in Gaza, further adding to its disgraceful record of violations.
Roshdy added that the Israeli operation aims to isolate northern Gaza from the rest of the Strip and forcibly displace its population as part of a systematic plan. He pointed out that Israel is employing exceedingly inhumane tactics, depriving the population of basic necessities such as water and food, while also targeting healthcare facilities and reducing entire buildings to rubble.
Meanwhile, Mr. Aboul Gheit condemned in the strongest terms Israel's confiscation of the land on which United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees' (UNRWA) headquarters is located in Jerusalem, turning it into a settlement outpost. He stressed that Israel is executing an ongoing scheme to dismantle UNRWA and eradicate its role. Mr. Aboul Gheit reaffirmed full Arab solidarity with the UNRWA, which plays an indispensable role in supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people in their homeland and in aiding refugees across its five operational areas.
He called upon the international community to stand firmly in defence of UNRWA in the face of one of the most aggressive liquidation campaigns ever launched against a UN agency by the occupation authorities.
