Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit,
Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, reaffirmed the League's
full solidarity with Lebanon and its people during the challenging
circumstances the country is currently facing. He called on the
international community to stand firmly with Lebanon in confronting the
ongoing Israeli attacks, particularly those targeting civilian areas.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, conveyed Mr.
Aboul Gheit's deep concern over the evolving situation in Lebanon,
noting his confidence in the Lebanese people's ability to uphold civil
peace and avoid sectarian strife or conflict.
Aboul Gheit unequivocally condemned the persistent Israeli assaults on
Lebanon, which have resulted in the tragic loss of hundreds of lives and
the displacement of nearly a million people. He emphasised that these
violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty pose a serious risk of escalating
the conflict. Nevertheless, he underscored that a diplomatic resolution
remains achievable through adherence to UN Resolution 1701, to which
Lebanon has consistently affirmed its commitment.
The spokesman further relayed Mr. Aboul Gheit's assertion that the
Lebanese people have endured significant suffering in recent years, and
now, more than ever, they require international support and solidarity
to navigate this perilous period.
