Your Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The future is being shaped today. Every decision we make and every
path we choose will leave its mark on generations to come. This summit
must deliver a resolute message: future generations deserve to inherit a
world free from conflict, hunger, and extreme poverty, and unburdened
by the threats of unchecked climate change or unregulated technology.
The challenges we face are deeply interconnected, converging on one
critical point—the preservation of multilateralism and collective
action at the global level. Whether it is addressing the rising
temperatures of our planet, bridging the gap between the developing
world and affluent nations, particularly in the realm of climate
finance, or ensuring that the burdens of climate adaptation are shared
equitably, these issues, along with extreme poverty, mounting debt
crises, and the formidable challenges posed by emerging technologies
like artificial intelligence, can only be tackled through coordinated,
multilateral efforts and robust global governance.
Despite the magnitude of these challenges, I firmly believe that
the core mandate of this organisation remains the preservation of
international peace and security. Without peace, the realisation of all
other goals will remain elusive in a world gripped by conflict and fear.
We must confront the reality that conflicts are expanding, and
efforts to resolve them are increasingly being stymied. The intensifying
rivalry among major powers undermines the very fabric of this
international system, dragging us back to an era when paralysis and
inaction reigned supreme.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It has become universally acknowledged that the Security Council,
in its current form, no longer mirrors the realities of today's world.
It has fallen short in serving the goals of multilateralism effectively
and in addressing the conflicts that ravage our planet. A glaring
example of this is the months-long Israeli aggression against Gaza,
marked by relentless killing, destruction, starvation, and displacement,
without the Council being able to take decisive action. Even when a
resolution was eventually passed, regrettably, the Council has not been
able to enforce it to this day.
The current structure and performance of the Security Council do
not align with our shared aspirations. We anticipate genuine and
transparent reform that will restore confidence in the institution and
reflect the realities of the modern world.
I must emphasise that any reforms to the Security Council and
international financial institutions must ensure that the Arab world has
a consistent and influential voice in global decision-making processes.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Arab region is plagued by protracted conflicts. In Sudan alone,
10 million people are displaced, and the nation faces unprecedented
levels of food insecurity. Yemen endures a grave humanitarian crisis,
while Libya struggles with divisions that threaten its unity. Somalia,
meanwhile, suffers from drought and encroachments on its national
sovereignty by neighbouring forces.
These crises compel us to continuously engage with the United
Nations and to rely on its vital role in addressing these challenges for
the sake of future generations—the very topic this "Future Summit"
addresses. We will not lose hope, nor will we abandon our resolve to
transform our present for the better.
Thank you, Mr. President.
