Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, vehemently condemned the extensive Israeli raids and military operations against Lebanon, which have resulted in a significant loss of life and thousands of injuries.
The Secretary-General underscored that this alarming escalation constitutes a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and poses a grave threat to regional stability, with the potential to ignite a broader conflict that would have devastating consequences for all involved.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit’s urgent call for the international community—particularly the major global powers—to shoulder their responsibilities in halting this perilous slide towards a regional war, driven by the Israeli leadership's personal and political ambitions.
Mr. Aboul Gheit further urged the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action, fulfilling its duty to safeguard international peace and security. He stressed that the current escalation must be stopped without delay, warning that the devastation unfolding in Gaza must not be repeated in Lebanon.
The spokesperson added that the Secretary-General reaffirmed the League of Arab States' unwavering solidarity with Lebanon in the face of these egregious Israeli assaults.
