Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held a meeting on 23 September with Dr. Mohamed Mustafa, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the discussions focused on the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, especially in light of the ongoing Israeli escalation and attempts to eliminate the Palestinian Authority. Mr. Aboul Gheit reiterated the unwavering support of the League of Arab States for the Prime Minister in his critical and challenging mission during this period, affirming full backing for Palestinian efforts on diplomatic and legal fronts, both at the General Assembly and the Security Council, particularly concerning the implementation of the commitments outlined in the recent UN General Assembly resolution regarding the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice last July.

Roshdy added that the Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for the pivotal role played by the League of Arab States and the Arab Group in New York in bolstering the Palestinian cause through all possible means. This includes expanding international recognition of the State of Palestine and intensifying efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Furthermore, Mr. Aboul Gheit highlighted recent endeavours to organise an expanded ministerial meeting at the United Nations on 26 September under the theme "Implementing the Two-State Solution."
