The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul
Gheit, met on 22 September with Ms. Sigrid Kaag, Senior Humanitarian
and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, on the sidelines of the
high-level segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General
Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, said that
the meeting addressed the latest developments regarding the ongoing
Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, particularly the
catastrophic humanitarian situation facing the Palestinian people. The
discussions highlighted the continued obstruction of humanitarian aid
and relief efforts by the Israeli occupation forces, exacerbating the
already dire health and social conditions in the region.
Roshdy further conveyed that Mr. Aboul Gheit commended Ms. Kaag for
her considerable efforts, while also expressing grave concern over the
potential loss of another academic year for over 630,000 Palestinian
children. He underscored the dangers posed by Israel's plans to
partition Gaza, depopulate its northern areas, and assert control over
all land crossings.
Mr. Aboul Gheit warned that the hatred sown by Israel through its
ongoing massacres severely impedes any future prospects for
comprehensive peace.
