Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, inaugurated the Seamless North Africa 2024 Conference and Exhibition on 2 September. The event, which runs through 3 September, is being held under the theme "The Future of Digital Trade across North Africa."
The conference is dedicated to advancing the future of digital trade, financial technology, and banking services, while also addressing the challenges confronting Arab economies. In light of the significant role that technological innovations now play in banking, e-commerce, and the broader financial sector, the discussions are particularly timely.
In his opening remarks, the Secretary-General underscored the critical need to foster an economic environment that encourages innovation, advocating for a forward-looking philosophy marked by development and modernity. He expressed his hope to fully harness the untapped potential and energies present in many Arab countries.
Counsellor Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said that the Secretary-General consistently prioritises supporting and sponsoring events that align with the demands and developments of the modern era. Such initiatives are crucial in equipping Arab youth, harnessing their potential, fostering a spirit of fair competition, and motivating this vital and expansive sector to engage actively. He further noted that the Secretary-General warmly welcomed the efforts of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy in keeping pace with the rapid technological advancements.
Additionally, Counsellor Roshdy highlighted the significant contributions of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, which remains committed to embracing contemporary developments and sciences. The Academy’s hosting of numerous activities and events aimed at nurturing talent and promising individuals across various fields of knowledge was also commended. The latest of these initiatives is the hosting of the "Thirty-Sixth International Olympiad in Informatics," taking place from 1 to 8 September 2024 at the Academy's headquarters in Alexandria.
