Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, affirmed that the General Secretariat is "always committed to fully implementing the decisions of member states on all issues." He added that delegating Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Hossam Zaki to visit Lebanon as the Secretary-General's personal delegate to communicate with Lebanese political forces is "in implementation of the League Council's resolutions regarding solidarity with Lebanon and tasking the Secretary-General with this matter."
Ambassador Zaki clarified in a press statement to accredited journalists that his comments on the subject were misinterpreted. He said that "this does not in any way negate the numerous reservations and objections to Hezbollah's behaviour, policies, actions, and positions, both internally and regionally." The Ambassador highlighted that "the relevant League of Arab States resolutions, especially the resolution on maintaining Arab national security and combating terrorism, stipulate in one of its paragraphs the necessity of refraining from providing any form of explicit or implicit support to entities or individuals involved in terrorist acts, including militias or irregular armed groups. This resolution was unanimously adopted by the member states."
