Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab
States, convened with Mr. Han Zheng, Vice President of the People's
Republic of China, on Wednesday during the Secretary-General's visit to
Beijing to participate in the 10th session of the
ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, slated
for 30 May.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said that
Mr. Aboul Gheit lauded the longstanding bonds between Arab nations and
China, characterised by a bedrock of trust and reciprocal esteem. He
underscored the robust camaraderie and cooperative
ties existing between both parties, emphasising China's pivotal role as
the Arab countries' second-largest trading partner. By 2023, the
bilateral trade volume soared to approximately $400 billion.
Turning to regional and international affairs, the meeting delved
into pressing matters of mutual concern. Foremost among them was the
Palestinian cause, alongside the ramifications of Israeli aggression on
the Gaza Strip. Mr. Aboul Gheit advocated for
an immediate ceasefire, coupled with expeditious aid distribution and
the formulation of a viable political trajectory leading to the
establishment of a Palestinian state.
The Chinese Vice President echoed appreciation for the recent Arab
summit convened in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Notably, the summit
reaffirmed the Arab world's unwavering support for the one-China
principle.
The spokesman further elaborated on the meeting between the
Secretary-General and Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist
Party of China. During this encounter, Mr. Aboul Gheit
extended gratitude for the commendable efforts undertaken by the Chinese
authorities in ensuring the success of the 10th session of the
China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, hosted in the Chinese capital of
Beijing. This session, marking the forum's 20th anniversary
since its establishment in 2004, held particular significance.
The discussion between the two dignitaries encompassed a range of
pertinent topics, with a primary focus on the dire humanitarian crisis
unfolding in Gaza. The ongoing Israeli aggression in the region has
precipitated a tragic situation, leading to widespread
displacement of Palestinian civilians within the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, the Israeli blockade has severely impeded the entry of
vital humanitarian aid, exacerbating the perilous conditions and pushing
the populace to the brink of famine. Both parties emphasised
the urgent imperative of securing an immediate and sustainable
ceasefire, alongside facilitating unimpeded access for humanitarian
relief efforts into the Gaza Strip.
