Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab
States, flew on Wednesday to Beijing from Brussels, where he was
participating in a meeting with European foreign ministers on the
Palestinian cause. In the Chinese capital, Mr. Aboul Gheit is scheduled
to take part in the 10th session of the ministerial meeting of the
China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, to be held on the 30 May.
The forum will be attended by Mr. Wang Yi, Chinese Minister of
Foreign Affairs and member of the Political Bureau of the Central
Committee of the Communist Party of China, along with Chinese President
Xi Jinping and leaders, presidents, and kings from several Arab
countries.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that
the visit to China will include a number of official meetings with
senior Chinese officials, including the Foreign Minister and the Vice
President. The meetings aim to discuss final preparations for the
ministerial meeting and to exchange views on significant regional and
international issues of mutual concern, particularly the Palestinian
cause, which remains a priority for the League of Arab States,
especially in light of efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
The spokesman added that, in light of the growing cooperation
between the Arab and Chinese sides in various fields under the
China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, the General Secretariat of the
League has prepared a documentary book to commemorate the 20th
anniversary of the forum's founding. The book highlights key milestones
in the forum's history, its fundamental documents, and an overview of
its successful achievements.
