The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States participated in the Non-Aligned Movement Summit, held in Kampala, Uganda from 19 to 20 January 2024, at the invitation of the Summit's Chairman, His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda.
The Secretary-General's representation at the summit was undertaken by Ambassador Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Manzalawi, the Assistant Secretary-General for International Political Affairs. He conveyed the Secretary-General's greetings and best wishes to the Republic of Uganda for success in chairing the summit.
Ambassador Manzalawi also expressed these sentiments to His Excellency Jeje Odongo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, who, in turn, appreciated the General Secretariat's attendance and participation.
The Assistant Secretary-General engaged in discussions with several heads of delegations, ministers, and deputy foreign ministers participating in the summit. The conversations focused on various topics of common interest, with particular emphasis on finding a solution to the war in Gaza, facilitating aid entry, and achieving a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian cause.
The League of Arab States' address stressed the imperative for any future arrangement concerning Palestine to adhere to the principle of Palestinian self-governance. Additionally, there was a call for the international community, especially influential countries, to actively engage in playing an objective and constructive role in various international forums. The League emphasised full support for South Africa's lawsuit against Israel, filed before the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of committing genocide.
