Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the Iranian missile bombing that targeted several areas in Erbil on the evening of 15 January. The attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of innocent civilian lives, represented a blatant violation of Iraq's sovereignty. Mr. Aboul Gheit extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims' families and expressed his wishes for a swift recovery for the injured.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, characterised the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's involvement in this attack as reprehensible behaviour and a condemnable violation of principles of sovereignty and good neighbourliness. Roshdy emphasised that this incident constitutes a perilous development on the Iraqi scene, heightening the risk of the expansion of the ongoing regional conflict. He warned against the consequences of using Iraq as a battleground for settling scores.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the League's unwavering solidarity with the Iraqi government's measures to safeguard Iraq's sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as regional security and stability.
