Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab
States, welcomed the substantial vote in favour of the United Nations
General Assembly resolution advocating an immediate ceasefire. He
emphasised that the overwhelming majority supporting the resolution
accurately reflects the global public opinion, while countries opposing
it find themselves on the wrong side of the issue.
Quoting Mr. Aboul Gheit, Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General's
spokesperson, stated that the significant vote favouring an immediate
ceasefire highlights Israel's isolation and exposes the inconsistencies
in its arguments for conducting a brutal and indiscriminate war against
civilians in the Gaza Strip.
In a related context, Roshdy clarified that the Secretary-General
of the League is closely monitoring developments in the American
position concerning Israel's war on the Gaza Strip, particularly
President Joe Biden's recent statements. Mr. Aboul Gheit is observing a
shift in this position, especially regarding the recognition of the
implications of the Israeli military operation's clear randomness,
leading to thousands of civilian casualties. This exposure further
reveals the ideological motives driving the Israeli right, striving
relentlessly to fulfil their plans of ethnic cleansing or forced
displacement of Palestinians.
Mr. Aboul Gheit noted that the development in the American position
has been delayed and remains insufficient to halt the bloody war. He
expressed hope that the United States will adopt a morally and
politically correct stance by exerting pressure on Israel to cease the
Gaza massacre, preventing the fuelling of extremism in the region for
decades to come.
