Ambassador Khalil Ibrahim Al-Thawadi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the League of Arab States mission overseeing the presidential elections, met with the Governor of Alexandria Major General Mohamed Al-Sharif on 12 December to assess the preparations undertaken by the governorate for the electoral process and discuss the ongoing efforts during the polling days to assist voters in exercising their electoral rights.
Ambassador Al-Thawadi commended the high level of organisation demonstrated in the elections in Alexandria governorate. He expressed appreciation for the measures implemented by the governorate to ensure the security of all organidational and logistical aspects at the polling stations. During the visit, the delegation also visited the operations room responsible for monitoring elections in the governorate. The governor provided an explanation of its work mechanism, emphasising communication with various institutions and stakeholders to overcome obstacles and facilitate the electoral process in all stations and subcommittees in Alexandria governorate.
Ambassador Al-Thawadi and Major General Al-Sharif conducted an inspection tour of several electoral committees in different areas of Alexandria to assess the progress of the voting process on the third day. Ambassador Al-Thawadi highlighted the significant efforts undertaken by various stakeholders in collaboration with the governorate to ensure the smooth execution of the electoral process. He emphasised the importance of achieving the desired organisational level that reflects the history of the Arab Republic of Egypt in conducting elections at all levels.
