During his participation in the Manama Dialogue hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, engaged in discussions with various Arab and foreign officials who attended the annual event. The gathering included a diverse assembly of security officials, politicians, diplomats, and experts.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said that Mr. Aboul Gheit held a meeting with Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, extending his congratulations on the success of the latest edition of the Manama Dialogue. They exchanged views on a range of topics, with a focus on initiatives to halt the aggression against Gaza in alignment with the resolutions of the Arab-Islamic Summit held on 11 November. Additionally, discussions covered preparations for the upcoming Arab summit, set to be hosted by Bahrain.
Roshdy elaborated on Mr. Aboul Gheit's meeting with the British Minister of State for the Middle East, Lord Tariq Ahmad. The discussion centred on the situation in Gaza, with Mr. Aboul Gheit expressing concern about the ongoing conflict. He warned against the persistence of hostilities, attributing them to policies of certain nations that hastily endorsed Israel's actions, giving it unchecked authority for reprisals. Mr. Aboul Gheit emphasised that immediate attention should be directed towards ending the aggression and safeguarding civilians from the perils of bombings, famine, and epidemics.
Furthermore, Roshdy highlighted Mr. Aboul Gheit's discussion with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Mr. Aboul Gheit commended Borrell for his principled commitment to protecting human lives, irrespective of religion or race. He cautioned against the repercussions of escalating anger and hatred in the Middle East, particularly due to the biased stances of several Western countries supporting Israel's aggressive actions. Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed the need for European countries to play a significant role in facilitating a political settlement based on the two-state solution through an international conference.
The spokesperson underscored that Mr. Aboul Gheit, in his meeting with Mr. Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, shared the latest developments in Gaza and expressed concerns about the continuing war. Mr. Aboul Gheit listened to Mirzoyan's insights into Armenia's ongoing negotiations to resolve the conflict with Azerbaijan.
