Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, lauded the success of Egyptian-Qatari mediation, resulting in an agreement to implement a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip and facilitate the exchange of detainees, hostages, and prisoners on both sides.
Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed hope that the truce will evolve into a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, bringing an end to the brutal Israeli aggression against the civilian population. He emphasised the need to actively build upon this truce, viewing it as an opportunity to achieve a complete cessation of hostilities.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said that Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed that a comprehensive political solution based on the two-state solution is the only way to break free from the recurring cycles of violence in the Middle East. He underscored that the brutal Israeli aggression in Gaza does not contribute to security but rather escalates the likelihood of future violence.
