Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, reiterated his warning against the forced displacement scenario being advocated by certain Israeli circles through international media and communication platforms.
He emphasised that those contemplating this scenario fail to grasp the potential chaos it could unleash in the region. Mr. Aboul Gheit asserted that the displacement of Palestinians from the West Bank or Gaza is a red line, categorically rejected by the Arabs. Such actions risk liquidating the Palestinian issue, resorting to methods that would not only destabilise the region but also constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. Mr. Aboul Gheit urged international powers to recognise the severe risks associated with promoting this scenario.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, said that during today's meeting with Mr. Yehull Martin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, at the League's General Secretariat headquarters, Mr. Aboul Gheit lauded Ireland's stances. He expressed gratitude for Ireland's consistent support for the Palestinian cause, especially during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Mr. Aboul Gheit acknowledged Dublin's balanced positions and commitment to humanitarian values in its statements.
During the meeting, Mr. Aboul Gheit highlighted the frustration in the Arab region and the Middle East due to the double standards adopted by some Western countries regarding the Israeli attack on Gaza. He stressed that the value of human life should not differ based on nationality or religion.
Roshdy added that the Secretary-General, underscored the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire to save the people of Gaza and provide relief to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe due to Israeli bombings.
Mr. Aboul Gheit informed the Irish Minister about the situation based on the decision issued by the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, encouraging Dublin to play a positive role within the European Union to exert pressure to stop the aggression and provide immediate aid. He expressed gratitude for Dublin's efforts in this regard.
The spokesman clarified that Mr. Aboul Gheit and the Irish minister both rejected targeting UN institutions in Gaza. They expressed concern about a plan to undermine these institutions, endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. They commended UNRWA's work and sacrifices, emphasising the need for more financial support to enhance its humanitarian response.
