Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Mr. Yván Gil Pinto, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, at the headquarters of the League of Arab States on 6 November.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit's gratitude for the Venezuelan government's unwavering support for the Palestinians and their cause in the face of Israel's racist attacks on civilians in Gaza. He commended the stance of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the humanitarian aid provided by Venezuela, facilitated through the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The meeting focused on efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and on holding Israel accountable for its crimes in front of the international judiciary. Both parties concurred on the imperative of ensuring that Israel faces consequences for its actions, which flagrantly violate international humanitarian law. The two parties also strongly denounced the statements made by the Israeli Minister of Heritage regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons, Roshdy stated.
Mr. Aboul Gheit emphasised the necessity for the world to pay attention to what these statements reveal about the extremist mindset and ideology of those currently governing Israel.
The spokesperson added that during the meeting, both parties acknowledged that the continuation of the conflict in Gaza poses a grave threat to global peace and security. Thus, the paramount goal is to bring an end to this brutal war, which serves only to perpetuate hatred and collective punishment against more than two million Palestinians in Gaza. Israel stands to gain nothing from this conflict but a legacy of lasting animosity that may endure for generations to come.
