Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held a meeting with Ms. Rola Dashti, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), on 31 October.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed his gratitude for the productive cooperation between the League of Arab States and the ESCWA. He commended the report prepared by ESCWA titled "The War on Gaza: Unprecedented Devastating Repercussions" and urged Ms. Dashti to exert all possible efforts to alleviate the repercussions of the war and improve the humanitarian conditions for civilians. Mr. Aboul Gheit also suggested bolstering collaborative efforts with the goal of formulating a vision for social and humanitarian development in the Palestinian situation, which would be put into action when circumstances allow.
The discussion also revolved around the recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza. Both parties emphasised the grave economic, social, and humanitarian repercussions facing the Palestinian people and underscored the imperative need for comprehensive support to alleviate these effects. They shared concerns about the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its potential implications for regional security, stability, and global peace.
Mr. Aboul Gheit praised the collaboration between the League and ESCWA in shaping the Arab Vision 2045, a significant initiative aimed at advancing collective Arab endeavours and working towards the achievement of sustainable development goals in the Arab region. Ms. Dashti expressed her enthusiasm for an expedited official launch of this initiative and conveyed ESCWA's eagerness to host the ministerial session of its council at the General Secretariat headquarters on 18 December. It is during this session that the Arab Vision 2045 will be officially unveiled.
