Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Mr. Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the League of Arab States headquarters on 14 October. The discussion centred around the ongoing Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit and Fidan agreed on the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and the provision of essential relief to the civilians in the Gaza Strip, including the creation of safe passages and delivering humanitarian aid to the population, whose suffering is intensifying by the hour.
The spokesperson said that Mr. Aboul Gheit affirmed during the meeting that the current explosive situation is the predictable outcome of the political deadlock and absence of any viable prospects offering Palestinians hope for independence and a normal life. Additionally, he highlighted the systematic erosion of the foundations of the two-state solution.
Furthermore, the spokesperson stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed his appreciation for the improving and evolving relations between Turkey and several Arab countries, recognising the mutual benefits for all sides.
He added that the Turkish Minister extended an invitation to the Secretary-General to visit Turkey in the nearest time possible.
