Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, held a meeting on 19 July with Mr. Anthony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States, during Aboul Gheit's visit to Washington. Gamal Roshdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting encompassed a gamut of issues of mutual concern, and explored means to enhance relations between the League of Arab States and the United States in the political, economic, and social spheres during the forthcoming phase.
Blinken expressed interest in listening to the Secretary-General's perspectives regarding the developments pertaining to the Palestinian issue, as well as the situations prevailing in Sudan, Syria, Libya, and Yemen. The US Secretary expounded upon his country's outlook on a plethora of regional and international matters.
Aboul Gheit extended a cordial invitation to the American minister to visit the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and deliver a speech before its council. The spokesperson further disclosed that Aboul Gheit and Blinken inaugurated the opening session of the strategic dialogue between the League and the US State Department, where in-depth deliberations took place between the General Secretariat's delegation and officials of the US State Department concerning a host of strategic, political, economic, and social issues.
