Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received a letter from Sudan's civil forces that signed the framework agreement outlining their perspective on the desired role of the League in stopping the war in Sudan, stated Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General's spokesperson.
The civil forces urged the Secretary-General to immediately communicate with the leaders of the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces to prioritise the cessation of hostilities, while rejecting external interference that exacerbates the conflict.
They also called for support in transitioning to a political process that leads to an agreement among all parties on new constitutional arrangements. This would establish a civilian authority agreed upon by all parties to implement a reform programme during a short transitional period, leading to general elections, and obtaining Arab relief support to address the humanitarian crisis both inside and outside Khartoum.
