Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the signing of the Jeddah Declaration by representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The declaration commits to safeguarding civilians in Sudan and enabling the opening of humanitarian corridors for unobstructed access to aid. The signing took place on 11 May in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of fully adhering to the commitments made in the declaration to prevent further violence in Sudan and establish a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire.
He also commended the Saudi-American efforts in facilitating the signing of the declaration and praised Saudi Arabia for hosting the talks.
