Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the signing of a short-term ceasefire agreement between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 20 May 2023. The agreement, which will remain in effect for seven days, was signed with the aim of facilitating the provision of essential humanitarian aid and restoring basic services to the affected population.
Counsellor Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stressed the importance of implementing the agreement and honouring the commitments outlined therein, particularly in light of the support expressed by the Arab Summit held in Jeddah for the resolution of the Sudanese crisis.
