Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, participated on 20 November in the opening of the Third China-Arab Forum on Global Development and Governance, held at Fudan University in Shanghai in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s spokesperson, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit delivered a speech in which he lauded Fudan University’s tireless efforts since the forum’s inception in 2023 to consolidate its foundations and develop it into an effective platform for enhancing Arab-Chinese academic cooperation and exchange in higher education and scientific research.
In his speech, Mr. Aboul Gheit also highlighted significant developments in Arab-Chinese relations, including the establishment of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum in 2004 as a comprehensive institutional framework, which has enabled both sides to launch more than 10 cooperation mechanisms covering political, economic, cultural, media, and development fields.
The spokesperson added that Mr. Aboul Gheit affirmed that the first Arab-China summit, held in Riyadh in December 2022, marked a strategic turning point in cooperation between the two sides. He also noted that the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and Fudan University had signed a memorandum of understanding in October 2023, on the sidelines of the first China-Arab Forum on Global Development and Governance.
