The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States welcomed the appointment of Dr. Kamil Idris as Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan, viewing it as a pivotal step towards reestablishing the effective functioning of national civil institutions.
An official source at the General Secretariat affirmed that the League of Arab States will intensify its efforts to support Sudan in preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity, mobilising greater international engagement in addressing its developmental and humanitarian needs, reinstating the path towards civil democratic transition, and launching a comprehensive, Sudanese-led political process that guarantees the inclusive participation of all components of Sudanese civil society.
It is noteworthy that the League of Arab States, the United Nations, and the African Union convened a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Arab Summit in Baghdad on 16 May. The meeting, held at the level of heads of organisations, marked the first such gathering since the onset of the Sudanese crisis, and reflected a unified approach aimed at ending the conflict and addressing its wide-ranging repercussions in a coordinated and constructive manner.
