  • Aboul Gheit participates in the ministerial meeting of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group on Gaza
    Date: 11/04/2025

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, took part in the ministerial meeting of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group on Gaza, convened in Antalya, Republic of Turkey, on 11 April.

In his address during the meeting, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the urgent and overriding priority of achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. He cautioned against the grave and unprecedented deterioration of the humanitarian situation, warning that such conditions appear to be engineered with the objective of pushing the Palestinians out of the Strip.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting featured extensive deliberations on mechanisms to create collective political and diplomatic momentum to bring an end to the ongoing brutal Israeli war against civilians in Gaza, and to prevent the implementation of any plans for displacement—an outcome categorically rejected by Arab states and the broader international community.

Roshdy further noted that ministers from the Arab and Islamic countries represented in the Contact Group examined forthcoming political and diplomatic actions to reinvigorate the path towards a two-state solution. Particular emphasis was placed on galvanising international support ahead of the high-level conference scheduled to be held in New York in June, under joint Saudi-French auspices, with the objective of advancing this solution. The participants stressed the importance of France taking the decisive and long-overdue step of recognising the State of Palestine, viewing this as a critical milestone in the path towards the two-state framework.
