The General Secretariat, represented by the Department of Research and Strategic Studies within the Media and Communication Sector, is organising a specialised workshop entitled "Media and Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges" on 13 April at the headquarters of the League of Arab States.
The workshop brings together a distinguished group of participants, including representatives from research institutions across Arab countries, permanent delegations of member states accredited to the League, prominent intellectual and academic figures, professors from faculties specialising in media and artificial intelligence, as well as experts from the media and AI sectors and leading Arab think tanks and centres for strategic studies.
Serving as a platform for meaningful dialogue among experts, specialists, and decision-makers, this workshop seeks to explore the evolving intersection between media and artificial intelligence. It aims to shed light on the opportunities presented by AI technologies while also critically examining the challenges they pose to the media profession.
Among the workshop's primary objectives are: analysing the impact of artificial intelligence on the various dimensions of media work; anticipating future developments that AI will bring to the digital media landscape; identifying the principal challenges AI poses to journalistic and media practices; exploring possible future scenarios for media institutions in adopting AI technologies; and highlighting the developmental opportunities AI provides for enhancing media performance. Participants in the workshop will also propose forward-looking visions and strategic frameworks to manage this transformation and mitigate its associated risks.
The discussions will be structured around three central themes: opportunities offered by artificial intelligence to the media sector; challenges confronting the media in the age of AI; and future strategies for advancing media development through AI integration.
