The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States marks Arab Music Day, observed annually on 28 March, in accordance with Resolution 8372 of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, issued on 6 March 2019. The commemoration coincides with the anniversary of the inaugural Arab Music Conference held on 28 March 1932—a milestone that continues to symbolise a renewed homage to the art of music and its profound influence in cultivating aesthetic sensibilities and nurturing creative talent across the Arab world.
On this occasion, Her Excellency Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Social Affairs Sector, affirmed that Arab music transcends mere melodies—it is a living testament to the history of our forebears and a vibrant reflection of the soul of the Arab nation in all its richness and diversity. Her Excellency remarked, "This day serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring cultural and artistic legacy of the Arab peoples throughout history. It is also a call for collective action to safeguard this invaluable heritage, raise public awareness of its significance, and ensure its transmission to future generations."
Her Excellency further underscored the imperative of nurturing young musical talents and launching initiatives that elevate the global presence of Arab music. She called for strengthened cooperation among Arab states to establish comprehensive training and production programmes in the field of music, and to create dedicated platforms that celebrate and amplify the creativity of Arab artists—thereby reinforcing their pivotal role in shaping the contemporary cultural landscape.
The General Secretariat commends the role of music as a catalyst for intercultural dialogue, stressing its status as a universal language that transcends linguistic and geographic boundaries, fostering mutual understanding among peoples. In the face of today's global challenges, music remains a powerful medium for promoting the values of peace, tolerance, and shared human dignity.
The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States urges all Arab countries, as well as cultural and artistic institutions, to actively engage in the celebration of this distinguished occasion by organising concerts, exhibitions, and cultural activities that highlight the richness of Arab musical heritage, showcase the talents of Arab musicians contributing to the global artistic mosaic, and pave the way for deeper cultural exchange and cooperation among nations.
