Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, unequivocally condemned the Israeli occupation forces' bombing of the village of Koya in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria—an attack that resulted in the martyrdom and injury of innocent civilians. He reaffirmed his absolute rejection of Israel’s continued aggression against Syrian territory, denouncing it as a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and an opportunistic exploitation of the country’s fragile circumstances to encroach upon its land and foment discord and instability.
Gamal Roshdy, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit underscored the urgent need for the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities by taking decisive action to halt Israel’s brutal and unjustified aggression against Syria. He stressed the necessity of compelling Israel to adhere to international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. Furthermore, he called upon the international community to adopt firm and unequivocal positions to deter Israel’s expansionist policies and aggressive actions against the region’s states and peoples.
The Spokesperson reiterated the League’s steadfast solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic in the face of these recurrent Israeli violations, affirming its full support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity.
