Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received on 24 February Ms. Anita Demetriou, Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament, and her accompanying delegation, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, as part of their visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed, at the outset of the meeting, his deep appreciation for Cyprus’ principled and supportive stance on Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. He said that these steadfast positions reflect Cyprus’ adherence to the principles of international law and international humanitarian law.
Mr. Aboul Gheit highlighted the long-standing political, economic, and social ties between the Arab world and Cyprus, underscoring the historical bonds that connect the two sides across various fields, as well as the strong relations at both the official and popular levels.
For her part, Ms. Demetriou reaffirmed her country's unwavering support for the two-state solution and the ongoing efforts to achieve stability in the region.
