  • Aboul Gheit inaugurates the second Digital Cooperation and Development Forum in Amman

    Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, inaugurated on 23 February the second edition of the Digital Cooperation and Development Forum 2025, held under the theme "Our Vision, Our World, Our Future." The forum, jointly organised by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the League of Arab States, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, aims to assess progress and advance the implementation of the Arab Digital Agenda 2023-2025.

    Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that in his opening address, Mr. Aboul Gheit underscored the forum’s significance as a pivotal platform for fostering partnerships, facilitating knowledge exchange, and enhancing digital transformation across the region. He stressed the forum’s role in addressing challenges faced by Arab nations in this rapidly evolving domain.  

    The Secretary-General also reaffirmed the imperative of initiating the implementation of activities under the Arab Digital Agenda, a comprehensive regional framework endorsed at the Arab Summit level. He highlighted its critical role in harmonising efforts to formulate and enact national policies and strategies for information and communications technology, thereby driving digital development and aligning with the swift global advancements in digital transformation.  

    Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed the necessity of intensifying investments in research, development, and innovation within the ICT sector. He called for increased funding in these areas to empower Arab nations to transition from mere consumers of technology to active producers and innovators.
