  • Aboul Gheit receives Croatian Prime Minister
    Date: 18/02/2025

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received on 18 February Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, who is currently visiting the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting focused on avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the League of Arab States and Croatia across various areas of mutual interest. Mr. Aboul Gheit underscored the importance of advancing Croatia’s positions in a manner that positively contributes to supporting the Palestinian cause in the United Nations and international forums. He said that upholding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people—foremost among them, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders—constitutes the only viable path to achieving lasting peace, security, and stability in the region.

The Secretary-General reasserted the firm Arab stance rejecting any proposals for the displacement of Palestinians and urged Croatia to align itself with the European nations that have recently recognised the State of Palestine.

The official spokesman further noted that Mr. Aboul Gheit listened to an assessment by the Croatian Prime Minister regarding the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, particularly in light of the ongoing Russian-American dialogue in Riyadh. Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed his hope for the success of these discussions, highlighting their potential to contribute to de-escalating international tensions and fostering greater global stability.
