Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, inaugurated in Rome on 28 January the Arab-Italian Business Forum, organised by the Joint Italian Arab Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Union of Arab Chambers. The forum aims to strengthen economic ties between the Arab world and Italy.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that in his opening remarks, Mr. Aboul Gheit underscored the significance of the topics being addressed by the forum, including energy, infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, and tourism. He emphasised the necessity of adopting a forward-looking approach to deepen collaboration between the Arab world and Italy in these vital sectors.
The Secretary-General highlighted the symbolic importance of the forum's timing, describing it as a crucial opportunity to explore strategies for overcoming economic and developmental challenges faced by both sides. He also stressed the potential to transform the relationship into a strategic partnership, facilitated by the participation of prominent business leaders and representatives of financial and commercial institutions from both regions.
Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Joint Italian Arab Chamber of Commerce and voiced his aspirations for the Chamber to intensify its efforts in creating new avenues for cooperation and unlocking promising opportunities in diverse economic and development projects that align with the shared goals of the Arab and Italian sides.
Before the forum's commencement, the Secretary-General held a meeting with members of the Joint Arab Chamber, where he stressed the importance of leveraging the longstanding history of cooperation and the distinguished relationship between Arab countries and Italy. He urged building on this foundation to maximise mutual benefits across various fields. Expressing confidence in the forum's role, he envisioned it as a pivotal platform for fostering Arab-Italian rapprochement, establishing a new phase of partnership, and tapping into the potential of both sides.
