Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the decision of the United Nations Secretary-General to appoint Ms. Hanna Serwaa Tetteh as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). He expressed the General Secretariat's confidence in Ms. Tetteh's extensive experience and her ability to lead the UN mission in fulfilling its mandate as entrusted by the Security Council.
The spokesman further emphasised the Secretary-General's hope that Ms. Tetteh's tenure will be marked by enhanced cooperation and coordination between the United Nations and the League of Arab States. This collaboration aims to support ongoing efforts to foster dialogue among Libyan parties, achieve national reconciliation, and unify state institutions. These efforts align with the League of Arab States' commitment to its responsibilities towards Libya, ensuring the preservation of its unity, sovereignty, and protection from foreign interference in its internal affairs.
