The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States is closely monitoring with deep concern the unfolding events in several Syrian cities and regions, which appear to be aimed at inciting sedition in the country.
The Secretariat rejects the recent Iranian statements that seek to fuel discord among the Syrian people. It reiterates the principles outlined in the Aqaba Statement of the Contact Group on Syria, stressing the importance of "standing by the brotherly Syrian people, providing them with all necessary assistance and support during this critical juncture, and respecting their will and choices."
The General Secretariat affirms the imperative for all parties to uphold Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability. It calls for limiting the possession of weapons to state institutions, the dissolution of all armed formations, and the rejection of foreign interventions that undermine stability.
Expressing its confidence in the resilience of the Syrian people, with all their diverse components and leaderships, the Secretariat affirms that through wisdom and unity, they can safeguard civil peace and national cohesion. It hopes that Syria will emerge from this prolonged ordeal stronger and more unified, reclaiming its proactive role in the Arab, regional, and international arenas.
