Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit,
Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received on 24 December
His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Maalim Faqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, at the
General Secretariat headquarters during an official visit to Cairo.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated
that Mr. Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the League of Arab States' unwavering
support for Somalia, emphasising its solidarity in safeguarding
Somalia’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. He also
highlighted the League’s full commitment to backing Somalia’s
development process, combating terrorism, and fostering peace and
stability.
In response, His Excellency the Minister expressed the Somali
government’s deep appreciation for the League’s steadfast support for
the unity and sovereignty of Somalia. He also acknowledged the League’s
continuous efforts in this regard and briefed the Secretary-General on
the Somali government’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at enhancing
regional security and stability.
The spokesman further noted that the discussions touched on the latest
developments in Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region. Both
parties emphasised the importance of sustained consultation and
coordination between the General Secretariat and Somali authorities to
bolster the progress achieved in Somalia’s developmental journey. They
reiterated their shared commitment to promoting peace and stability in
the region, while steadfastly preserving Somalia’s sovereignty and
territorial integrity.
