    Date: 21/11/2024

On 21 November the Republic of Yemen signed the Agreement on Regulating the Transport of Goods by Land between Arab Countries at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. This agreement was approved by the Economic and Social Council through Resolution No. 1916, ordinary session 89 dated 29 February 2012, and subsequently endorsed by the Council of the League of Arab States through Resolution No. 7551, ordinary session 138 dated 5 September 2012.

The agreement seeks to promote the transport of goods between Arab countries by facilitating and enhancing land transportation processes. It aims to eliminate restrictions and barriers to road transport, unify regulations governing the international transport of goods by land among the contracting parties, and standardise documentation used in the process. Additionally, it addresses the carrier's responsibilities, safeguards the rights of involved parties, and ensures the swift resolution of disputes, thereby enhancing efficiency and cooperation.
Pursuant to Article (64), paragraph (1) of the agreement, it will come into force 30 days after three signatory Arab countries deposit their ratification instruments.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Yemen by His Excellency Dr. Abdul Salam Saleh Hamid, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Yemen, and on behalf of the League of Arab States by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed El Amin Ould Akik, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Legal Affairs Sector. Yemen is the fourth Arab country to sign the agreement, following the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Kingdom of Morocco. To date, the agreement has been ratified by two countries: the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
